The Moondrop SSR is notable for its unusual mid-range tuning, which offers mostly neutral low mids and a noticeable boost in the upper mid-range. This offers exceptional detail and richness in the upper mid-range but can sound unusual to some ears.
With the upper mid-range being the clear star of the show, the SSR offers a somewhat limited bass response with minimal sub-bass. While some may find the bass lacking in power, it is still high quality and sounds precise, accurate, and punchy, though rarely rumbling.
The SSR takes a conservative tuning in the high end, which minimizes fatigue. Highs benefit slightly from the boosted high mids, but the highest frequencies manage to shine through the mix without becoming harsh.
